Apart from standard roles Shift4 Dashboard offers a possibility to create an unlimited number of custom roles. Unlike standard ones, they can be edited or deleted through Manage Users option. Custom roles are assigned to a merchant account.
There are two ways to create a custom role:
- through Manage Users button
- upon inviting a new user
Scope of custom roles
Customization allows to limit user's privileges to view or to edit almost every tab in your dashboard and accounts settings individually.

Creating a custom role through Manage Users button
- Log into account as the Owner or an Administrator
- Go to Account Settings, Users tab,
- Choose button Manage Role and then - Create A New Role
- Add name to the new role; description is optional
- Through ticking boxes from the list you can assign privileges to your custom role, then confirm by clicking Create
- Once created, the new role will be available in the user invite screen, eg. Reporting is a custom role
- Unlike standard roles, custom ones can be edited or deleted through Manage roles screen
Creating a custom role upon inviting
- Log into account as the Owner or an Administrator
- Go to Account Settings, “Users” tab
- Click Invite user
- Choose Custom on the invite screen
- Tick boxes with privileges you need to assign
- Confirm your choices
- Send an invite to a user
